Also there will be friends’ and random works that I’ve come across that are eyes openers and inspiration!

Murata Renge & Kozaki Yusuke
An awesome illustrator in Japan that I came across when I was getting ROBOT for Kozaki Yusuke’s brilliant manga (appeared in vol4 & 6).

K.Yusuke’s featured work on ROBOT
Murata san is the one responsible for putting together ROBOT, which is a mind blowing collection of manga from different artists. Even without fully understanding what each stories are about, the illustrations are enough to satisfythe most manga-thirsty individuals.

His works, it’s difficult to explain. It’s cute, but can be seriously realistic. Innocent yet very very naughty in a way. Mind you he does regular illos for adult mags, so check him out!!

Hayao Miyazaki (Studio Ghibli)

He has to be one of the greatest animator in Japan, and one that als inspired many around the world.

I think I have been very influenced by his work and his style. He loves to use children in his story telling and allows the stories to fit into a greater range of audiences. The stories are often very simple, although the discourse may not be easy to understand.

I definitely didn’t really get the underlying message of Kiki’s Delivery Service when I was around 7, in fact I didnt really get why she had to leave in the first place lol!

But being a Miyazaki film, may of them are very addictive. Over the years I kept watching repeatedly and everytime I am able to pick out some new details, especially in terms of character expressions. Miyazaki san illustrate children’s expression, the way they play and interact so brilliantly. The style of the characters are not that realistic, but their facial expressions and their actions are enough to give that sense of realness-ness.

There are so much I can go on about Miyazaki san, and there are definitely more to find about him the next time I watch his films.

Power Graphixx

They specialise in motion graphic and web designing, also very awesome stuff for music videos, tv media, prints etc.
I remember when I started my craz for graphic design, Power Graphixx were one of the first ones I’ve got myself familiarized with. It’s just simply their logo was glued to my mind (which also started my craz to make logos, for a while)! It’s just had “ba” in katakana as that was how they pronounced Po for Power. It was simple, standout, relevant without the cheesy-ness. It’s was a total inspiration to a newbie artist. Teaching me the first and most important lesson! Simple is the best!
